Emerging Technologies in Education
Viano Jaksa started using a personal computer in his teaching in 1979 and, since then, has always been committed to ensuring that his students always had access to the best possible tools to facilitate their learning. Innovative approaches to the integration of film, video, role play and performance characterised Viano's teaching strategies.
When he was Principal of Cardijn College, Viano developed a bold plan to make Cardijn an Information Technology focussed school. During this time Cardijn became a regional focus school for IT, providing a range of services to regional Catholic school communities including IT support and internet service access.
After some time serving in the Catholic Education Office – SA, Viano changed careers and now works as a consultant and account manager in the IT industry.
The integration of ICTs in the learning program of schools remains an abiding passion in Viano's professional life. He believes in a strategic planning approach to the implementation of new technologies and the importance of professional development programs that support how technology can help revolutionise pedagogy.
As he says, "professional development is a process, not an event."
